Minimum Required Qualification:
  • Level 3: Grade 11 and National Certificates level 3 Trade and Occupational Qualifications Mining
The Appointee should:
  • National Certificate Supervisor Operations (QCTO)
  • DMR Blasting Certificate (post 1 June 2017) or DMR recognized Mining Operations Level 2 (MQA) and Rock Breaker Level 3 (MQA).
  • Minimum of 3 years of mining experience at the level of a Miner (Graduates with 6 months of mining experience and 3 months of Supervisory experience)
  • Medically fit to work in the specific business area
  • Clear security screening record.
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Legal, operational, and standard compliance. Application of legal, operational, and standard compliance with regards to work, machinery, and equipment inspections and the recording thereof as stipulated in section 2.15.1 of the Minerals Act • Inspection of ground conditions and face preparation and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics. • Inspection of temporary and permanent support installations and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics. • Inspection of machinery, equipment, and safety devices and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics. • Inspection of barricades, barricading off back areas, hazardous areas, and abandoned workings and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics. • Perform early and late shift examinations as specified. Monitoring of environmental conditions for compliance with legal and management specifics. • Conducting tests for flammable and harmful gases and taking appropriate measures to ensure gas percentages are within the permissible limits. • Ensure that the routing and control of mine air are consistent with legal and management specifics. • Measurement of velocities and temperatures and taking appropriate measures to ensure velocities and temperatures are within the permissible limits. • Reporting/dealing with any sub-standard conditions and acts related to gases, mine air, velocities, and temperatures. Monitoring performances for compliance with legal and management specifics. • Assessing and monitoring the performance of production teams against legal and management specifics with regards to: o Early examination o Cleaning of blasted stope faces o Installation of all support o Marking, drilling, charging and blasting of the face o Housekeeping • Taking appropriate measures to ensure team members are familiar with legal and management specifics and are competent to perform their duties. • Deal with sub-standard conditions/acts and poor working performance. Investigating incidents/accidents and property damage. • • Following the prescribed procedural requirements for the investigation and completion of accident/incident reports. • • Prescribe/support preventative action taken. • • Communicating findings to all persons concerned. • • Following up on preventative action taken and dealing with non-adherence to instructions. • • Completion of legal reports and assisting with investigations for formal inquiries. •
  • Stopping Administration Maintaining/monitoring formal records for area • Checking attendance registers and maintaining records for time worked • Monitoring and advising on the ordering and procurement of explosives • Obtaining and recording daily/weekly production statistics • Ensuring the availability of the required certification/written permission for the performance of sensitive or hazardous tasks. Obtaining and posting all relevant reports, instructions, and statistics received from economic resource departments • Communicating information to the team via notice boards and/or formal briefings regarding targets, ventilation, survey, geological and safety issues • Interpretation and communicating all instructions related to the mining of the area Completing all the required checklists, reports and written assessments. • Recording all specified inspections required by the Minerals Act. • Submitting all checklists or formal controls required for the operation of hazardous machinery and equipment Completing and submitting documentation required for the development of personnel • Completing and submitting performance assessments • Completing and presenting written disciplinary forms • Effective management of performance management systems Receiving and forwarding the ordering of all required material and resources • Interpretation and communication of production objectives • Verifying stock levels and delivering of materials and equipment • Utilising applicable system for the ordering of materials and equipment Planning production for the area of responsibility • Forecasting development objectives for measuring month in conjunction with team members • Predicting resource requirements for planned production objectives • Communicating logistic needs to relevant support departments • Discussing production objectives and constraints with team • Monitoring contract work in area of responsibility
  • Area Production Maintaining feedback to team and management concerning production progress. • Obtaining and communicating operational statistics to the development teams: o Production o Safety o Attendance o Efficiencies o Zero Tolerance compliance • Selecting and communicating relevant information about production achievements or delays to both parties • Involving team members in decision-making and problem-solving. Monitoring the performance of all activities and advice where applicable to enhance productive achievement. • Assisting during breakdowns or emergencies and co-coordinating support from other disciplines • Encouraging cooperation and teamwork between maintenance and operational personnel • Monitoring material usage and ensuring that the use of reclaimed material is optimized • Arranging expertise for problems beyond the scope of existing resources. • Co-coordinating the activities of the haulage servicemen allocated to the area. Monitoring shift activities to ensure maximum production output. • Maintain quality working methods and sequences and work performances to support the continuance of the mining cycle • Ensuring team activities support each other in the mining cycle. • Monitor and advise the teams on working methods and scheduling
