Purpose of the Legal Secretary Job
The Legal Secretary: High Court plays a vital role in the Legal Services Department of the RAF. The primary responsibility is to provide administrative and legal support to attorneys and ensure smooth daily operations within the legal office.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Secretarial Administration
- Prepare court statements and forms required by attorneys
- Transcribe and proofread legal documents
- Manage and update pleadings and discovery binders
- Assist attorneys with legal research and communicate with vendors, experts, and opposing counsel
- Collect and deliver legal documents
Standard Procedures and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and legal standards
- Support the Strategy and Reporting Office with administrative duties
Quality Assurance
- Maintain updated documentation related to legal business activities
Office Management
- Handle correspondence, filing, and administrative support for the department
- Maintain confidentiality in all legal matters
- Manage office requests and ensure timely responses
- Ensure availability of office stationery and supplies
Meeting and Diary Management
- Schedule and arrange meetings for the Legal Services Department
- Take minutes and distribute them per governance standards
- Manage team diaries and ensure follow-ups on outstanding matters
- Organize appointments with internal and external stakeholders
Document Control
- Maintain an efficient filing system for legal documents
- Update and distribute court rolls received from registrars
- Manage document retrieval and ensure data confidentiality
- Collate and update court directives for legal reference
- Maintain records of high-value foreign national claims for re-insurance purposes
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- National Diploma in Business Administration or Law (or related qualification)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a legal or business administration environment
