Generic Requirements:

  • The applicant must demonstrate competence in the functions specific to the post.
  • Must hold a Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
  • Proficiency in at least two official languages, one of which must be English.
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • No criminal record or pending criminal/departmental cases.
  • Must possess computer literacy.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Analytical, self-management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Skilled in report writing, presentations, and development.
  • Must hold a valid light driver’s license.
  • Applicants will undergo a vetting process, including security screening and fingerprint verification.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
  • Relevant qualifications or courses in the field of the post will be advantageous.
  • Must not have visible tattoos while wearing SAPS uniform.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants must possess a 4-year Honors/Master’s degree in Psychology, accredited by SAQA on NQF Level 7 or higher.
  • Proof of academic qualifications from a recognized institution (SAQA accredited).
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Registered Counsellor, Psychometrist, or Psychologist, and must provide proof of valid registration for 2024/2025.
  • Experience in the field of the post as a Registered Counsellor/Psychometrist will be an advantage.

Core Functions:

  • Provide psychological interventions, including counseling, psychotherapy, trauma support, and suicide prevention.
  • Ensure professional, integrated Employee Health and Wellness services for SAPS employees.
  • Improve the mental well-being of members through psychological, emotional, personal, and work-related interventions.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary Employee Health and Wellness team.
  • Assist with psychometric testing.
  • Contribute to organizational diagnosis and team-building initiatives.
  • Manage mental health-related projects and initiatives.
  • Promote psychological services within SAPS.
  • Support the facilitation of Assessment Centers.
  • Manage human, physical, and financial resources.
  • Assist in developing organizational norms, standards, and procedures.
  • Willingness to travel and work long hours.

General Information:

  • New appointments will undergo a lateral entry program at a SAPS Academy and Training Centre.
