Introduction

The Limpopo Department of Health (LDoH) invites applications from eligible and qualified candidates to participate in the Pharmacist Internship Programme for the 2026 intake. This structured internship is designed for graduates who have completed their Bachelor of Pharmacy and are seeking practical experience under the supervision of qualified professionals in a public healthcare setting.

This programme is aimed at enhancing the clinical, operational, and regulatory skills of future pharmacists through hands-on experience in public hospitals and clinics across Limpopo.

What is the Pharmacist Internship?

A Pharmacist Internship is a mandatory training year required for the professional registration of a pharmacist in South Africa. During the internship, interns:

  • Perform pharmacist-related duties under supervision,
  • Learn practical application of theoretical pharmacy knowledge,
  • Contribute to the provision of essential medicine and pharmaceutical care.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the 2026 Pharmacist Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

A. Educational Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree or proof of latest academic results indicating completion,
  • Proof of current registration as a pharmacy student with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

B. Skills and Competencies:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills,
  • Report writing and record-keeping capabilities,
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation:
    • Pharmacy Act, Act 53 of 1974,
    • Medicines and Related Substances Act, Act 101 of 1965 (as amended),
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Pharmacist Intern, you will:

  • Assist in dispensing medication under supervision,
  • Perform duties of a Post-Basic Pharmacist’s Assistant as permitted,
  • Participate in stock management, record keeping, and administrative support,
  • Gain exposure to regulatory compliance, patient counselling, and pharmacovigilance,
  • Engage in public health awareness and community outreach programs,
  • Report to and work closely with the responsible Pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager.

Application Instructions

📌 1. Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A fully completed and signed Z83 form (available from any government department or www.dpsa.gov.za),
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV) with all relevant experience and contactable references,
  • A certified copy of your South African ID document,
  • Latest academic transcript or certified copy of BPharm qualification,
  • Proof of registration with SAPC as a pharmacy student.

IMPORTANT: If you are applying for more than one facility/district, you must submit a separate application for each.

2. Completing the Z83 Form: Key Tips

  • Complete all sections: Part A, C, and D in full.
  • Part B:
    • Passport number is not required for South African citizens,
    • If you’re not conducting business with the State, you may leave related fields blank,
    • If your profession doesn’t require registration, this may be left blank as well.
  • For Part E, F & G, referencing your CV is acceptable only if your CV includes all relevant details.
  • Remember: Your CV is an official extension of your application, and you are responsible for the accuracy of the information provided.

3. Interview and Selection Process

  • Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an in-person interview.
  • You must bring certified copies of qualifications and your ID document to the interview.
  • Final placement will be at the discretion of the Department, depending on facility needs.
