LOCATION: Psychological Services – Makhanda (Grahamstown), Eastern Cape
LEVEL OF REMUNERATION: (Band B1) R351 570 per annum

Generic Requirements:

  • Demonstrated competency in the specific functions of the post.
  • Possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
  • Proficiency in at least two official languages, one of which must be English.
  • South African citizenship.
  • No criminal record or pending cases (criminal or departmental).
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Analytical, self-management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in report writing, presentation, and development.
  • A valid light motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • Willingness to undergo vetting, including security screening and fingerprint verification.
  • Availability for extensive travel.
  • Relevant courses related to the position are advantageous.
  • No visible tattoos when wearing the SAPS uniform.
  • Flexibility to travel and attend training courses as needed.

Additional Requirements:

  • A relevant Honours or Master’s degree in Psychology (SAQA-accredited, NQF Level 7 or higher).
  • Proof of academic qualifications from a recognized institution (SAQA-accredited).
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Registered Counsellor, Psychometrist, or Psychologist, with valid 2024/2025 registration proof.
  • Experience as a Registered Counsellor or Psychometrist is advantageous.

Core Functions:

  • Provide psychologically related interventions (e.g., counseling, psychotherapy, trauma, and suicide support).
  • Deliver integrated Employee Health and Wellness services to SAPS employees.
  • Enhance members’ mental well-being through personal and work-related interventions.
  • Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary Employee Health and Wellness team.
  • Assist in psychometric testing and organizational diagnostics.
  • Facilitate team-building initiatives and assessment centers.
  • Manage projects and mental health-related programs.
  • Market psychological services and develop organizational norms, standards, and procedures.
  • Manage human, physical, and financial resources.
  • Be willing to work long hours and travel as required.
